Kid Stew 2019 Emmy Nominations

The public television series KID STEW, a co-production of best-selling author James Patterson and South Florida PBS for elementary school kids celebrating imagination and creative expression, has received seven nominations for the 2019 Emmy ® awards by the NATAS Suncoast regional chapter in two categories. All six episodes of the series’ second season are nominated in the category “Children/Youth/ Teens” program for the team of James Patterson, Frank Costantini, Brian Sitts, Scott Barnett, Johanna Vega and Tim Malloy. The series represents six of the eight nominations in the category. Luke Nappe of Miami Beach, one of the series’ nine pre-teen cast members, is nominated in the “Talent – Performer/Narrator” category. South Florida PBS received a total of 18 nominations this year, announced on October 21, 2019. Winners will be announced on Saturday, December 14, 2019. Season one of KID STEW garnered seven nominations in 2018 and won five EMMY ® Awards – in the category Outstanding Children’s Program for all four Season One episodes and in the category Talent for co-star Armando Bernal IV. The series’ third season is slated to debut on public television stations in May 2020.

“We are thrilled to see ‘Kid Stew’ grow season to season in both reach of viewership and industry recognition,” said South Florida PBS Executive Vice President Bill Scott. “Congratulations to the production team and all of the kids in the cast.”

“When we started ‘Kid Stew’ the idea was to give kids the kind of television they want while sneaking in the educational tools they need,” said series creator and co-producer James Patterson. “I’m so proud of what our team has accomplished.”

Co-producer South Florida PBS distributes the series nationally to public television stations via American Public Television (check local listings).

In addition to Nappe, the kids cast includes Florida residents Armando Bernal IV, David Bolinger, Caroline DeLeon, Nicholas Hernandez, Madison Maxwell, Blake McCall, Milena Rivero, and Satine Sorensen, and their mascot dog, Ozzie. They time travel, conduct interviews with famous creatives, host newscasts, explore the science behind joke shop classics, virtually globetrot, star in parody commercials, perform in music videos, read to animals, and more kid-tested, teacher-approved fun.

In season two, popular authors Judy Blume, Eliot Schrefer, Ridley Pearson, Jill Sheeley, Soman Chainani, and Peter Brown reveal their inspiration and offer encouragement; the kids meet a broad range of artists including ice sculptors; reimagined fairy tales and iconic Hollywood scenes with a twist address social issues; and visits to NASA, a marine biology lab and a humane society expand the kids’ perspectives. Subtle suggestions to visit the library to further investigate interesting topics covered in the episodes remind viewers that reading isn’t just something you have to do for school.
