South Florida PBS Presents The Everglades: A Symphony of Life
A Stunning New Documentary Explores the Fragile Ecosystem Through Science, Wildlife, and Music.
Miami, FL – South Florida PBS invites viewers to embark on a breathtaking journey into one of the world’s most unique and fragile ecosystems with The Everglades: A Symphony of Life.
Produced by award winning Symbio Studios, the one-hour documentary combines stunning imagery of the Everglades’ iconic wildlife and landscapes with the moving music of Miami’s New World Symphony, featuring Grammy nominated composer Valerie Coleman culminating in a powerful performance of Umoja. The film explores the impact of human activity on the ecosystem while highlighting restoration efforts that offer hope for the future.
The Everglades: A Symphony of Life seeks to reintroduce adults to the Florida Everglades and introduce this vital ecosystem to a new generation so they can experience the wonder of its iconic wildlife. More importantly, it encourages viewers to understand the importance of balance with nature, the evolution of a growing society, and how both rely on each other for survival.
Viewers can expect powerful commentary from environmental scientists, researchers, Miccosukee Tribe members, and other experts who work collectively to maintain this delicate ecosystem. The Everglades ecosystem supports more than 1,000 animal species, making it one of the most biologically diverse regions in North America. Through their voices, the documentary reveals how subtle environmental shifts create cascading effects across the region’s plant life and animal life.
Directed by Emmy winning Patrick Greene and acclaimed filmmaker Mike Gehman, the documentary blends scientific insight with emotional storytelling. From the slow-moving rivers of grass to sudden bursts of life driven by seasonal rains, each chapter celebrates the resilience and diversity of the Everglades.
“The Everglades: A Symphony of Life is more than a documentary. It is a call to understand, protect, and celebrate this vital ecosystem,” said Dolores Fernandez Alonso, President & CEO of South Florida PBS.
This premiere is a must-watch for environmental enthusiasts, music lovers, educators, and anyone who cares about the future of South Florida’s natural heritage.
The program will be available on public television stations as of April 15th. Major funding for the program was provided by Gary Wendt.
