Miami, FL- South Florida PBS (WPBT & WXEL) and KidVision Pre-K is excited to join PBS stations across Florida to participate in Jumpstart’s virtual Read for the Record on October 28, 2021. This year, public television stations across Florida will be joining in with read-along videos, family-friendly activities, and virtual field trips throughout the day. The videos will be posted on KidVision’s Facebook page throughout the day for families and educators to watch and read along.
Read for the Record celebrates the transformative power of books. The initiative showcases adults reading to children in their communities. It fosters a positive association with reading and learning and highlights the social-emotional benefits of one-to-one reading. In 2020, despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, more than two million readers across the globe participated in Read for the Record.
“Being joined by PBS stations from around the state, we all know that reading is important, and we want to bring it to you, our families and communities, so that we can jump start reading for our children.” —Penny Bernath, Education Director South Florida PBS and creator of KidVision Pre-K Florida.
PBS stations including South Florida PBS, WEDU TV, WFSU TV/FM, WGCU TV/FM, WJCT TV/FM, WSRE TV, WUCF TV, and WUFT TV/FM are creating videos of local celebrities, station leaders, and educators reading Kat Zhang’s book, Amy Wu and the Patchwork Dragon.
