This month brings exciting new premieres from Great Performances, Nature, and more. Highlights from May premieres on South Florida PBS include –
- National Memorial Day Concert 2025 – On the eve of Memorial Day, a star-studded lineup will grace the stage for one of the highest-rated programs on PBS. For over 35 years, this multiple-award-winning television event has honored the military service and sacrifices of all our men and women in uniform, and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. (Airing on Sunday, May 25th at 8PM on WPBT and WXEL).
- Miss Austen – In this moving and imaginative period drama, Cassandra Austen reflects on her sister Jane’s life and love as she guards a family secret. Keeley Hawes stars in this adaptation of Gill Hornby’s best-selling novel. (Airing on Sundays at 9PM on WPBT and Wednesdays at 9PM on WXEL)
- Nature: Hummingbirds of Hollywood – Amid the glamour of Hollywood, Terry Masear finds herself on a transformative journey as she nurtures wounded hummingbirds, unraveling a visually captivating and magical tale of love, fragility, and healing. (Airs Wednesday, May 7th at 8PM on WPBT and Sunday, May 11th at 8PM on WXEL.)
- Great Performances: Next to Normal – Experience this Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway musical directed by Micheal Longhurst from London’s Donmar Warehouse. Grammy nominee Caissie Levy stars in the story of a suburban family struggling with the effects of mental illness. (Airs Friday, May 9th at 9PM on WPBT and Sunday, May 11th at 12PM on WXEL).

- ELC of Palm Beach County Annual Provider Meeting – South Florida PBS’ KidVision PreK is excited to be a sponsor of the Early Learning Coalition (ELC) of Palm Beach County’s annual provider conference at Keiser University. KidVision representatives will be in attendance promoting the KidVision PreK Teacher’s Association and other KidVision initiatives such as the KidVision PreK Early Learning App, the latest season of KidVision Mission, and more. - NAMIWalks Miami-Dade – South Florida PBS’ Health Channel is honored to be a sponsor of the 2025 NAMIWalks Miami-Dade Walk. NAMIWalks aims to promote their mission of “Mental Health for All” with this series of 5K walks hosted across South Florida. (Saturday, May 10th, loanDepot Park in Miami)
- Acoustic Rooster Story Time and Live Music Event – South Florida PBS is thrilled to have received a grant from GBH to help promote Kwame Alexander’s latest work ‘Acoustic Rooster.’ This new PBS Kids program, based on the best-selling children’s book written by Kwame, is set to debut on PBS Kids on May 1st. To celebrate the launch of the new show, South Florida PBS in partnership with GBH, will be hosting a story time and live music event with Kwame at a local elementary school in Miami-Dade. The children will get to meet Kwame, experience live jazz music, and take home their own copy of Acoustic Rooster. (This private event will take place at a Miami-Dade elementary school on the morning of Wednesday, May 28th.)
